...And I missed it. Whaa whaa whaaaaa!!!!!

Kinja'd!!!

My '06 Sierra that I purchased new has now crossed the 100k miles mark. I'm planning to double that, so long as it doesn't turn into a money pit (which I don't think it will).

Roll that shit back! :P

What engine does the Sierra have? I'm just going to guess it could take probably 300k.

As my youngest niece would say: STOP that. The only milestone that makes any difference is 240,000 miles. That is the distance to the moon. When you're on your way back, we can discuss this.

Heh, I'll have to email Steve Lehto, and ask how to do it.

The Sierra has the 4.8L LS V-8. I imagine it could last 300k miles, but I'm thinking the salt will claim the rest of the truck, before that happens. Perhaps when the rust causes the frame to fold in half, I'll pull the motor and stick it something else.

Ah, It's starting to get rusty underneath? You're up North right?

That engine would probably outlast the frame and body of the truck for sure. Definitely pull it and stick it in something else though. That would be a pretty good swap if you do some mods to get all the power possible out of that thing.

This truck could have made it to the moon, has a very nice ring to it.

Psh, working on the return flight:

Kinja'd!!!

Had to stop on the side of the Ohio turnpike to capture that moment, which was probably a risky move considering my UofM alumni vanity plate.

Did you get out and dance when it matched your ZIP code?

Yeah, I'm in Chicagoland. The frame and suspension are still plenty solid, but there is some surface runs on them. The bottom of the drivers side door is rusting from the inside out, which is a very common problem for the GMT-800 trucks/suv's. They used to warranty it, my buddy got new doors on his '03 Yukon. But by the time it happened to my truck, GM changed their policy, and told me to get lost.

I figure when the frame breaks in half, or a piece of suspension falls off, I'll have the short block rebuilt, stick a blower on it, and drop it in something fun.

Ouch, If I were Gm I'd just honor the rust problem and continue. It's not like that many people would actually show up I'm guessing.

But when it starts to fall apart, you've got a great plan there. What would you throw it into ideally? Vortech supercharger right?

I'm a big fan of the screw-type blowers. If I still have my '74 Buick Apollo, I'll stick it in that. Otherwise, I'll think of something. Maybe a nice El Camino.

Weird, my dad's PRND321 is electronic, and crossed over 100k in '08 or earlier.

Really? Huh, I didn't know they changed the gauges any throughout the production run. My truck is a base model, so that could be the difference.

I don't drive a ton, which is why even when gas was over $4/gallon, it was cheaper to just pay for the gas, than to get another car.

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > shop-teacher

Kinja'd!!!0

It's totally identical except for that little bit. Maybe 5.3s and bigger got electronic shifter screens, because my dads is a base model too.

Ooh, my dad used to drive about 90 miles a day sometimes 7 days a week. The only reason the truck doesn't have over 200,000 miles on it is because he didnt work for almost two years.

Kinja'd!!! shop-teacher > Logansteno: Bought a VW?
01/03/2015 at 23:48

Kinja'd!!!0

That could be. I used to have a 2000 Z-71 with the 5.3, but I honestly don't remember if the shit indicators were electronic or not.

That kind of commute will pile the miles on quickly. I used to drive more, I had 45k miles on the truck, when it was 3 years old. I then switched jobs, and moved really close to the new school.

Is your Dad working again?

Not yet, he's on disability for complications caused by cancer radiation. It's possible he'll be back this spring/summer.

the fact that it's a base model is why your PRND321 is different.

There's still 111111 and 123456 waiting for you. At 111111 I only noticed it by accident and my fisrt thought was that the pixels were out. When I realized what was going on, I immediately pulled over and yanked my phone out.

Kinja'd!!!

With 123456 I was out of luck though. It happenend on a longer Autobahn trip. I could have taken a long detour, endlessly driven in circles at a service station ar do what I did. (Note the position of the speedo needle.)

Any chance you'll keep the truck long enough to see 222222?

I am actually more excited about 111111 and 123456 than I was about getting to 100000. I just like the ascetic of number sequences like that, for some reason. 222222 is definitely possible, as long as the truck doesn't become a money pit (which I don't think it will), and the rust doesn't claim it first (which is a possibility, as I live in an area that uses lots of road salt).
